Salmon Release

18th Mar 2015

Our P5 and P7 class, along with Desertmartin P.S, recently released the salmon we had been nurturing in our classrooms. We released them in a safe, appropriate part of the river beside Desertmartin P.S. It was a wonderful learning experience as we got to do some rock kicking and collected samples of mini beasts which live in the river. We took the samples back to the classroom and analysed them. We discovered that our river is pollution free, as there were a number of species which simply would not survive in a river with even a small amount of pollution. Sincere thanks to Fiona and Mark from the Sperrins Gateway Landscape Partnership who facilitated the project and we look forward to visiting the Salmon Fishery in Bushmills in early May.
